Obtaining a Certificate
Qwest Online Service Center
  1. To register for a digital certificate, contact your account manager. Once registration is complete, you will receive an email containing a link to a website that will allow you to download your digital certificate. Click on Begin Digital Certificate Download Process.

  1. Carefully read the instructions and complete the form. The following information is provided to assist you in the completion of this form.
Step 1: Digital ID Information
You should have received your QWESTid and QWEST PIN number by email or from your supervisor.
 
If you have not received your QWESTid and QWEST PIN number, contact your application's representative or the Technical Help Desk.
Step 2: Cryptographic Service Provider
The options in the Cryptographic Service Provider drop down box are based upon the configuration of your machine. Choose one of the Microsoft options listed on the form. We encourage you to choose the strongest encryption available which is either Microsoft Enchanced Cryptographic Provider v1.0 or Microsoft Strong Cryptographic Provider v1.0
Step 3: Security for your Private Key
We recommend that you protect the private key associated with your Digital ID and keep the default selection.
Step 4: When you have completed the form, click the ACCEPT button.

  1. Creating a new RSA exchange key: We recommend you use the default Security level and click "OK".

You should get the following Digital ID Services page.
Certificate Completed

Note: If this process fails to issue a certificate, exit your browser and start a new browser. Repeat the process. If it fails a second time, contact the Technical Help Desk.

  1. Click on the link, Access your Qwest ECOM applications. Then click: 'I Have a Digital Certificate'.
  If you already have a digital certificate registered with Qwest, please attempt accessing the applications now. If you continue to have problems, contact the Technical Help Desk.

You should now ensure that your security properties are set correctly.

  1. For IE4.x, click the View button on your browser's Navigation Tool bar, and then select Internet Options. For IE5.x, click the Tools button on your browser's Navigation Tool bar, and then select Internet Options.

  1. Click the Advanced tab.

  1. Scroll to Security

  1. The following must be selected
    • Enable Profile Assistant
    • PCT 1.0
    • SSL 2.0
    • SSL 3.0

    Other settings can be changed as desired.

  2. Click OK.

    You are returned to the Installation Complete page.

  3. You may now access the applications for which your certificate is designed by clicking Access your Qwest ECOM Applications.

Accessing an Application
Note: You must already have a certificate.

  1. From the Qwest E-Business access page, click I have a Digital Certificate.
The following Client Authentication window is displayed.

  1. Select your certificate, and then click OK.
Note: Your browser may display a Security Information alert message; click Continue.
The following applications access page is displayed.

Listed under Your Service Options are all the applications that your certificate will allow you to access.

  1. Click on the application that you want to access.
  2. Qwest recommends that you add the application(s) to your Favorites list at this point for a faster, more direct route to your application.

Correcting Common Problems
This page covers most common problems users encounter with IE web certificates.

When I select I have a Digital Certificate, the Client Authentication window that is displayed is blank. You may not have applied for a Qwest certificate.
You can use your browser to see if you have a certificate and if it was issued by Qwest.
Complete the following steps to check your certificate.
  1. If you have IE4.x, click the View button on your browser's Navigation Toolbar, and then select Internet Options. If you have IE5.x, click the Tools button your browser's Navigation Toolbar and then select Internet Options.
  2. Click the Content tab.
  3. Under Certificates, click Personal.
  4. In the list of certificates, find the certificate you want to check. If you cannot find it, you will need to obtain a Qwest Issued Certificate.

If the certificate is there, select it and then click the View Certificate button to see if the Issuer is Qwest Communications. If not, you will need to obtain a Qwest Issued Certificate.
